6 Simple Tips for Men’s Skin Care
Men do not usually follow a skin care regimen like most women do. According to a study by the NPD Group, a consumer market research company, only one quarter of men currently use facial cleansers, moisturizers or other skin products. It’s safe to assume that most men follow this skin care routine – splash water on their face, shave and continue with their day. However, removing dirt, cleaning pores and nourishing skin are very important for the overall health of both men and women. In honor of Men’s Health Month, here are some simple steps for men that could use some guidance on how to practice a good skin care routine.
1. Use A Facial Cleanser
Use facial cleaners to wash away dead skin cells, keep pores clean and free of build-up and allow new, healthy skin to form. Washing your face twice a day with a facial cleanser made specifically for your skin type – oily or dry – can help to relieve your face of impurities, hydrate your skin and clean deep beneath the surface. Try researching natural facial cleansers enriched with antioxidants to receive the maximum amount of benefits for your skin.
2. Choose a Quality Shaving Cream
Since most men regularly shave, they are not new to the world of shaving creams. However, selecting a product that is both beneficial for your skin and an effective hair removal tool can be difficult. Generally, a good shaving cream is one that also has a moisturizer in it. We would suggest a natural shaving cream that protects from razor burns, ingrown hairs and is loaded with antioxidants for your skin. Many times, a combination of those ingredients can even help to even out your skin tone.
Shaving not only eliminates the hair on the surface of your skin, it can also be a great exfoliator. Shaving improperly can cause redness, razor burn and bumps so always be sure to soften your beard, apply a natural shaving cream, use a new, sharp razor and rinse your face after you shave with cool or warm water.
4. Aftershave is important!
An aftershave lotion is great to soothe the skin after shaving. Most aftershave products contain ingredients that prevent infection, moisturize and contain a fragrance. These ingredients help to eliminate bacteria, unclog pores, clear acne, cleanse follicles and skin cells and eliminate redness after shaving. Aftershave products with Aloe Vera and astringents are best for facial skin care.
5. Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize.
As you get older, your face tends to dry out of the essential oils it needs. However, daily use of a good moisturizer can help. Those that contain vitamins, oils and natural ingredients are best. Look for moisturizers with a proven record of aiding in facial hydration, texture and overall appearance.
6. Apply Sunscreen!
As many of us know, sunscreen is a very important factor in maintaining excellent skin health. Not only does sunscreen protect your body from the sun’s harmful UV rays, it can also prevent aging of the skin. Apply sunscreen whenever you are going outdoors. Some moisturizers contain sunscreen, as well, making it easy to stay protected.
