Bracing the Elements and Running Outside

It may be cold outside, but for those who enjoy a good work out , this may be just be the right kind of weather to lace up and get out! Despite the cold, exercising outside has always had many benefits. I personally find the hardest part of getting up early and doing my run outside is the lack of motivation. If I know that if I’m meeting someone for a run, I’ll probably be more likely to get up and actually go because I don’t want to let down the other person. So, especially in the cold, I prefer to team up with someone who will join me.
Now, dealing with the elements means that you need to dress accordingly. There are several types of sneakers that have great traction, weather resistant and will provide you with the best running experience. Just don’t forget to layer up on the socks!
In really cold temperatures, I usually gear up with the following: 2 tops, 2 bottoms (leggings and track pants) and a jacket over it. I love the feeling of my chest opening up once I get started and feeling the blood flowing. I do enjoy running – from the treadmill to outside, as they each have a different benefit and style. But seeing that we’re only at the beginning of winter, we might as well try and make the best of it!
