Take a look in the mirror. Your face – once youthful, glowing and smooth – may now be displaying evidence that you’re getting older. Instead, you notice some wrinkles, maybe some sagging and that youthful glow you love may be fading away. Age-related changes both inside and outside of our bodies are unavoidable. But there are a few things you can do in order to stay a step ahead of the aging game.
What is Hyaluronic Acid?
Hyaluronic acid is a widely occurring substance in connective, skin and neural tissues, such as in the eyes and heart valves. It is a substantial component of the synovial fluid that cushions the joint. And now, beauty experts and bloggers have been touting Hyaluronic Acid for its beauty benefits.
The Evidence
According to an article published in the journal Dermato Endrocrinology by researchers in Greece and Switzerland, Hyaluronic acid is a key molecule involved in skin moisture, as it has the capability to retain water. Aging of the skin – wrinkles and sagging – are due to two processes, intrinsic/innate aging (which we obviously cannot control) and the loss of skin’s moisture. The skin accounts for 50% of the total amount of Hyaluronic acid in the body.
In a separate study preformed by the Department of Dermatology at the Toho University Ohashi Medical Center in Japan, participants with crow’s feet (wrinkles near the eye) who took 120mg of a Hyaluronic Acid supplement each day for eight weeks, displayed a significant diminishing of wrinkles, when compared to the placebo group. Researchers concluded that oral consumption of Hyaluronic acid inhibits skin wrinkles and improves skin condition.
Skin Care
Whether it is summer and the temperature is hot and the air is humid, or winter and it’s cold and dry, you skin needs certain minerals and vitamins in order to look (and feel) it’s best. Your skin is the largest organ you have, so treating it with the respect it deserve is important! Getting into a daily skin care routine that pays off in more ways than one, leaving you with healthy, radiant, youthful looking skin.
Don’t get tricked by your tan – your skin is craving numerous that only a few products can provide. Here is the ultimate guide to skin care that you need every season.
- Clean your skin with a superior cleanser. Throughout the day, your skin is collecting dirt, oil and is covered by bacteria, pollutant and old (and dead) skin cells. Washing your face daily will help to remove those impurities. Turn to an all-natural facial cleanser that contains antioxidant ingredients like Green Tea, Grape Seed, and Vitamin C .
- It’s time to tone! Facial toners help to prep the skin for moisturizer and can get rid of the excess oils, stubborn dirt and makeup that could have been missed after cleansing. Find one with ingredients like Green Tea, Witch Hazel, Marine Collagen, Aloe Vera and Cucumber oils – light enough to not leave your skin feeling tight, but powerful enough to show benefit.
- Moisturizing is key! Using a facial moisturizer replenishes the hydration that your skin needs in order to give you that dewy, glowing skin you’ve been looking for, without making it feel oily to the touch. The best moisturizer includes antioxidants like Grape Seed, Bilberry Fruit, Vitamin C and E and Alpha-Lipoic Acid (ALA), that offers enriching protection for healthy, smooth, and even-toned skin.
- Sleep tight with an overnight serum. If you’re concerned about your skin’s brightness or discoloration (especially in the summer due to the sun), you may want to invest in a toning serum. It’s job is to help fight free-radical and chemical damage on your face and neck and brighten your skin tone. Uneven pigmentation can be a serious issue for many women (and men!). An overnight toning serum, especially one with Vitamin C, can help be both protective and beneficial.
