Sometimes we overlook the importance of energy in the body. We forget that if we are lacking energy, we are going to start having some missteps or misfirings occur. Many times, we don’t even recognize the true impact that low energy states can have on our overall health and wellness. Today, I want to talk about one particular type of energy in the body and why it’s important to maintain this, especially when we look at cardiovascular health, skeletal muscle health and fatigue.†

Factors that impact energy levels

As we get older, our cellular energy levels begin to decline. We frequently talk about this in the setting of Coenzyme Q10 because even though it’s made in the body, age and certain medications can block the proper manufacturing of this important nutrient. This can cause you to feel more fatigued or tired, which is an indication that our cells are not functioning at their optimal performance.†

There is something in the body that plays a really critical role in maintaining and restoring energy levels and that is ribose. D-ribose has been shown to increase cellular energy production within the heart and skeletal muscles. What is ribose?

Ribose is something that is naturally-occurring within our system. It is an essential component to our cellular energy management. It also yields the ability to fend off oxidative stress because it plays a role as an antioxidant. In this role, it can help to ease inflammation.†

Supplementation with D-ribose is a very good choice for those who are dealing with cardiac issues. Ribose works in the production of ATP, as well as in helping to fend off oxidative stress within the heart itself. It is free radical damage that causes an inflammatory response within the heart. If we have adequate levels of ribose, then we know that the cells themselves are being protected from oxidative stress. Ribose can be found in our Ribose Complex, which is a great formulation.†

In this episode, Amanda Williams, MPH discusses the powerful nutrient ribose. She details how ribose helps support heart health and energy levels and explains how it also acts as an antioxidant.†
