Focus On Protein And Burn More Calories

I recently met with Dr. Millie Lytle at our Westbury location to discuss some tips on burning calories without any rigorous exercise. Here, Dr Millie simply explains how you can burn calories by stimulating your body’s energy with thermogenic foods. She also included a “Proteinlicious” salad along with a dressing that’s easy to prepare at home!
Food Thermogenesis-Burning calories while you eat
Not only exercise takes calories, but digesting, absorbing, transporting and storing the food you consume also burns up about 10% of the calories used each day. For the most part, your body’s energy requirement to process food stays relatively steady and isn’t easily changed.
Some foods increase thermogenesis and may stimulate your body to burn more calories: cayenne pepper, cinnamon, ginger, black pepper, mustard, lemons, garlic, olive oil, coconut oil, anchovies, parsley, cabbage and Brussel sprouts, apple cider vinegar, berries, green tea, protein such as free-range red meat, chicken, eggs, beans, legumes, and fish and water.
Want a new idea for lunch?
Try a healthy protein salad that is filling, vary the diet, loaded with greens, and help you burn more calories while at rest. Salads can be made from last night’s leftovers, and made creatively from what you have in the fridge. Remember, don’t skip the dressing, this is healthy too!
