In the winter your skin turns dry, flaky, dull and itchy. Your skin loses up to 25% of its ability to hold moisture in winter months. That’s because the air inside your home and also outside is cold and much dryer in the winter. Heat in the house and the air outside during this season takes the moisture out of your skin, leaving it looking dry and lifeless. Change up your skin routine when colder weather strikes and these steps will earn you a rich winter glow!
Your Winter Skin Care Routine
Two important steps for winter skin care are exfoliating and moisturizing regularly.
Exfoliation is a first crucial step to quenching thirsty, dry skin. When dry skin builds up on the surface, it can block your moisturizer from penetrating into the skin. By exfoliating away the dead skin on the surface, it allows your moisturizer to absorb better.
Exfoliate, but replace fruit acids with an extract of red grape skin from cabernet, and Grape Seed Extract from white grapes especially chardonnay. This supplies malic acid which is great for exfoliation. It gently polishes away dull, dry skin and is perfect for everyday use, which comes in handy during the winter when skin requires the most upkeep to remove dry, dead skin.
The other advantage of Grape Extract is the powerful antioxidants they contain. No matter the climate or time of year, your skin “gets attacked by free radicals”. These are generated by the suns’ rays, by the sooty carbon from boilers in large buildings, and by pollution from auto exhaust. These particles inflame the skin and cause sun spots which you may know as liver spots, and they also lead to the breakdown of collagen which creates premature fine lines that turn into wrinkles. These grape antioxidants stabilize and restore the collagen content of your skin which improves hydration and helps fill in wrinkles.
The second crucial step is to moisturize. During the winter your face is the part of your body that is most exposed to cold weather, causing it to lose moisture the most. A rich moisturizer with the appropriate balance of ingredients that add and lock moisture in the winter will help to better retain your skin’s moisture and make it feel soft.
The best time to moisturize is shortly after cleansing, lightly pat your face dry using a towel and then apply moisturizer liberally to your skin. Do this in circular motion to encourage blood flow! Try to get a green tea based moisturizer that also supplies Thioctic Acid. These ingredients dial down a major component of the immune system that makes your skin inflamed and also makes it age prematurely. This molecule is known as NF-Kappa B and applying green tea with Thioctic Acid blocks its aging effects on your skin.
Some more tips;
Change your shower filter. Try to use a shower filter that improves chlorine and chemical ridden hard water which can help your skin feel smooth and hydrated all year long.
Change Up Your Diet. With a direct connection between the gut and skin health, increasing your daily intake of fats that fight inflammation may help with dry skin. Eat a diet rich in walnuts, olive oil, ocean fish and avocados. Also drink lots of water!
Prep Your Home. The drier the air, the drier the skin. Use a humidifier in the rooms where you spend the most time, which, in many cases, is the bedroom and den. “A cool air humidifier increases the moisture level in the air,” helping skin’s barrier stay hydrated.
With these winter skin care steps achieving soft, luminous skin is easy. Take the first steps towards achieving a winter glow today!
Collagen Supplementation for Healthy Skin
Seventy percent of our skin is made of Collagen. However, the body’s natural supply of Collagen begins to decline at about age 25, causing wrinkles and other skin health issues. Collagen production decreases at a rate of about 1.5% per year; that means by age 60, you’ve lost about half of your natural collagen supply! InVite®’s Collagen powder formula helps restore the body’s Collagen supply.
InVite®’s unique Collagen powder supplement provides additional ingredients to support Collagen’s role in the body, including Silica from Horsetail Rush Stem Extract and Boswellia Extract, that combines with Collagen and Vitamin D in the body to create the organic matrix of the bone, which calcium attaches to for bone strengthening. Silica also combines with Collagen to create hair, skin, nails, tendons, cartilage and ligaments.
