A Word from Our Scientific Director & President: Jerry Hickey, R.Ph.

Back in the 1970s when I attended Saint John’s University School of Pharmacy, I was learning all about chemotherapy. I was also learning how damaging the drugs used to treat these diseases could be and how devastating cancers and other diseases were. It began to occur to me that perhaps there was a way of avoiding the disease process or at least stacking the odds against developing many of today’s more common diseases. One sure fire way of helping was good nutrition and the emerging studies on gene vs. environment support the career path I have chosen. The reason so many different plant ingredients are so healthy is not simply because they lack cholesterol or because they are rich in antioxidants; these being good enough qualities on there own to justify consumption, but because they contain phytochemicals that positively impact good health by managing the activity of your genes. Broccoli and other cabbage vegetables, green tea and the ingredients in red grapes are just some examples of foods that protect you by properly conducting the orchestra which is your genes.

I have dedicated my entire life to collating and disseminating this information and to designing products to support the effort. Helping me in this journey is my team of nutritional professionals; a group of hand chosen, caring and dedicated practitioners. A gifted member of the team is active at every location and I want you, our client, to take advantage of this knowledge. At every InVite® Health retail location is a genuine healthcare professional with strong academic credentials who is there to help you. Spend some time and sit down across the desk from an InVite®  Health professional, they will take the time to assist you in the selection of the correct nutrients to address your health concerns with free consultations.

  • Need your advice about my 9yr old grandchild who had a very bad winter with the stomach bug. She is in the autistic spectrum. She took Florastor all winter and cromolyn orally to control diarrhea. Didn’t work that well (2 days diarrhea-3 days no diarrhea]. We were thinking ibs=Went back to gastro M.D.=re-tested[sensitive to wheat, eggs&soy].Lives on a pasta diet with eggs. Diarrhea O.K. now, back to school. Should we continue with a probiotic-what regimen. Don’t know the diff. between bacterial probiotic and yeast. Want to use what can be easily sprinkled on food. Also how much protein shoul be consumed daily at her age-weighs about 75 lbs. Appreciate any advice YOU HAVE. She is also on CoQ10 Thanks so much, you do a tremendous service

    • Hi Dolores! Jerry Hickey, R.Ph is not currently in NY so the Social Media team reached out to the Director of Nutrition for InVite® Health’s Boca Raton retail location, Amanda Williams, MPH. Here is her recommendation –

“l would advise the Absorb Hx. This can easily be sprinkled onto food. This formula contains not only a very beneficial probiotic blend, but also the N-Acetyl-D-Glucosamine and Gamma Oryzanol in the product have been studied for optimizing the gut health in autistic individuals. It would be advisable as well to consider methylfolate (500-1000 mcg) as nearly half the children with autism have a folate metabolism defect. Of course Vitamin D should be part of her daily rotuine, the daily amount based on her current blood levels. Strong relationship between low vitamin d and autism. A good Omega 3 (1000 mg of total EPA + DHA) should also be part of her routine.

As far as dietary considerations, she should be on a strict gluten free diet, no processed foods, no sugar added foods, try to incorporate bright fresh fruits (berries) and vegetables as well as healthy fats such as pumpkin seeds, walnuts, almonds, avocado. As far as daily protein intake, she should have around 30 grams daily. As a reference a 4 oz piece of chicken has about 30 grams. So with that in mind, she should be averaging about 10 grams of protein per meal.
      Best in health,
      Amanda”
