In today’s episode, we are going to discuss Grape Seed Extract and plaque in the arteries. Click here to listen to Part 1 and click here to listen to Part 2, if you missed them!

Plaque in the Arteries

People with Diabetes are prone to plaque in the arteries. Grape seed extract is safe and beneficial for people with Diabetes. Diabetes creates a load of inflammation that damages organs and tissues. One of the issues frequently encountered is a build up of plaque in the arteries, which increases blood pressure, reduces blood flow and leading to blood clots, strokes and heart attacks.

The Journal of Geriatric Cardiology published a study from Chinese researchers from numerous institutions and hospitals where they concluded that Grape Seed Extract performed a natural bypass; it made their arteries literally decades younger. It really reduced their risk of stroke and heart attack. There are other studies showing that Grape Seed Extract alone or in conjunction with other nutrients helps keep your arteries clean, elastic, resilient and younger.

Hs-CRP is also called Cardiac-CRP and it is a proxy for inflammation. Learn more!

In a separate study two year study of 287 patients with diseased arteries (plaque in the arteries, called Atherosclerosis), patients were simply given Grape Seed extract (200mg per day). Your brain requires a lot of energy, oxygen and nutrition. To get that, you need healthy circulation. Your circulatory system is devoted to the brain. The corroded arteries are these big arteries in the neck, that support the brain with all of these components. These patients in this study had thickening of the veins in the blood pressure wall, meaning that their blood vessels were simply not healthy. If they are thick and stiff, it is harder to get blood into the brain. These patients also had plaque build up. This reflects the health of arteries throughout the body and the blood vessels in your heart.

So, doctors performed corroded ultrasounds at six months, 12 months and 24 months. Grape seed was shown to strongly reverse the thickening of the blood vessel wall. In other words, it made it blood vessels more elastic and made it easier for blood to pass through. Very interestingly, Grape Seed did a natural bypass; it reduced the amount of cholesterol plaque in the arteries by 33.1% on average, compared to the control group. It reduced the number of mini strokes, vascular events, blockage of the arteries in the neck and blood clots and more. According to researchers, “plaque was actually disappearing”.

In people with Diabetes, Grape Seed Extract has been shown to be safe and it has GRAS certification. To summarized the studies mentioned in Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3 of this podcast episode, studies have shown Grape seed extract helps with blood sugar and insulin sensitivity – these are hallmarks of better control in Diabetes. These studies have concluded that it improves eye health and reduces the progression of Diabetic Retinopathy. It also supports healthy kidneys.
