There are many different things that we can be doing throughout our lives to maintain the health of our hearing. Many times, people wait until they have more profound hearing loss before they try to seek out help and start to pay attention to their diet and supplements. Today, I will be giving you insight into what you can be doing that can be beneficial. In today’s world, we are really impacting our hearing health. What are Flavanols?

Flavanols are a kind of plant nutrient that is found in many fruits and drinks like red wine, blueberries, peanuts and tea. They are particularly abundant in cocoa, or cocoa beans, which has been studied for years for their benefit for the heart, especially circulation. But Flavanols have also been looked at pretty extensively when it comes to maintaining the health of the hair cells within the ear. These cells help our ability to translate that sound that comes into the ear. If these hair cells become damaged then we could be going down that slippery slope of noise-induced hearing loss.

When you think of Cocoa, it is pretty common to think about chocolate. Chocolate in its natural form (without additives) includes essential minerals and has polyphenols similar to those found in wine that offer excellent antioxidant protection that have been shown to increase circulation to the brain and heart, improving healthy blood flow. Together, these agents help improve various areas of health such as circulation, energy and mood. Flavonols are the substances in cocoa that have been shown to be responsible for boosting heart health and keeping blood pressure in the normal range.
