With the heat of the summer upon most areas of the country, I wanted to discuss something that is very important. Hydration matters. Staying hydrated throughout the summer months is key because we have a lot more fluid loss. I always turn towards the Alkalizer Powder during the spring and summer, when you have a lot more humidity, which can make us more prone to electrolyte imbalances. This is because we lose the minerals in our body as we lose fluids. While hydrating the whole body is extremely important, today I want to talk about a skin care tip for the summer months.†

Nourishing your skin with Vitamin C serum

Let’s talk about our Vitamin C serum. This is a really handy thing to have along with you for the hot summer months. It contains 10% Vitamin C, which is a high amount. It is combined with aloe, an Italian fine wine blend and marine collagen. These ingredients offer antioxidants that help to nourish, hydrate and support the skin. Vitamin C and collagen pair especially well together because they work synergistically to maintain the elasticity and tone of the skin.†

This Vitamin C serum is especially useful during the summer because we know we’re going to be exposed to high amounts of skin-damaging free radicals, not only from the environment, but also from the sun’s UV radiation. Studies have shown that overexposure to these two factors can accelerate the aging of the skin, partly because it causes the collagen in your skin to degrade. We’re already losing collagen as we get older, but then we add insult to injury by adding UV radiation and environmental pollutants. This drives up oxidative stress in the skin and that is why we need Vitamin C.†

Where does collagen fit in?

Vitamin C helps to promote collagen formation, which helps to mitigate damage caused by free radicals. This allows us to maintain the firmness and youthfulness of our skin. We know that topical Vitamin C is one of the most effective ways to help to bolster up your collagen synthesis.†

I oftentimes say that it’s a two-pronged approach: you want to take an internal, hydrolyzed collagen such as the Collagen HxⓇ or the Collagen tablets. Then, we want to be using our Vitamin C serum topically to help support the collagen fibers from the outside in, so this is really key.†

Excess belly fat can be very dangerous for the body. In part 1 of this episode, we covered exercises that can help target this harmful fat. Now, we’re going to discuss supplements that can be helpful.†

Supplements to block starches

There are supplements that can support your body’s ability to burn fat. The simplest one is called Phase 2Ⓡ. This contains a starch blocker found in a bean called faciolis vulgaris. Phase 2Ⓡ is a branded ingredient that has been the subject of many human clinical trials. It works by attaching to the enzyme alpha-amylase, which is needed for the absorption of sugar. When you eat food, you can still taste the sweetness for the most part, but when you take two Phase 2Ⓡ capsules before a meal, it can help block the absorption of sugar calories from that food. This can add up to a lot of fat loss. Phase 2Ⓡ also helps to slow the absorption of sugar, which can be beneficial for blood sugar and helpful for people with prediabetes or diabetes.†

Grape seed extract works in a similar manner. This nutrient attaches to the enzymes alpha-amylase and alpha-glucosidase to help block the absorption of starches. Grape seed extract has also been shown in various human studies to help promote healthy blood sugar levels. Researchers are also looking at grape seed as a nutrient for helping to target fat. They gave people 100mg of grape seed extract before a meal, then let them eat six to eight pieces of white bread with sugary jam for breakfast. The grape seed was shown to help block 40% of the sugar from being absorbed. This still allows you to absorb some sugar, but can prevent you from absorbing excess sugar, thus helping to target belly fat.†

Turning to plants to fight belly fat

Griffonia simplicifolia is an interesting plant that grows in Western Africa. It’s a natural source of 5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP). 5-HTP is the precursor to serotonin. Serotonin is a major neurotransmitter in both the brain and the digestive tract. In the brain, it helps with mood and stress, as well as with controlling your appetite. The problem with 5-HTP is that it only lasts an hour or two, which makes it difficult to help someone’s binge eating or consistent snacking. The solution to this issue is to make the nutrient time-released, which allows the 5-HTP to work for four to six hours. This is available in our Trim HxⓇ formulation. Trim HxⓇ can help with appetite control, allowing you to eat less and to stop snacking in between meals. This should be helpful for helping burn belly fat.†

Another plant that can be beneficial is called Grains of Paradise. At InViteⓇ, we use the patented version of this plant called CaloriburnⓇ GP. Studies have shown that 40mg of this nutrient a day can convert white fat, which is belly fat, into beige and brown fat. This helps with burning belly fat, as well as with energy. This nutrient is found in our Trim HxⓇ as well because it works differently than 5-HTP to help target belly fat.†
