Excess belly fat can be very dangerous for the body. In part 1 of this episode, we covered exercises that can help target this harmful fat. Now, we’re going to discuss supplements that can be helpful.†

Supplements to block starches

There are supplements that can support your body’s ability to burn fat. The simplest one is called Phase 2Ⓡ. This contains a starch blocker found in a bean called faciolis vulgaris. Phase 2Ⓡ is a branded ingredient that has been the subject of many human clinical trials. It works by attaching to the enzyme alpha-amylase, which is needed for the absorption of sugar. When you eat food, you can still taste the sweetness for the most part, but when you take two Phase 2Ⓡ capsules before a meal, it can help block the absorption of sugar calories from that food. This can add up to a lot of fat loss. Phase 2Ⓡ also helps to slow the absorption of sugar, which can be beneficial for blood sugar and helpful for people with prediabetes or diabetes.†

Grape seed extract works in a similar manner. This nutrient attaches to the enzymes alpha-amylase and alpha-glucosidase to help block the absorption of starches. Grape seed extract has also been shown in various human studies to help promote healthy blood sugar levels. Researchers are also looking at grape seed as a nutrient for helping to target fat. They gave people 100mg of grape seed extract before a meal, then let them eat six to eight pieces of white bread with sugary jam for breakfast. The grape seed was shown to help block 40% of the sugar from being absorbed. This still allows you to absorb some sugar, but can prevent you from absorbing excess sugar, thus helping to target belly fat.†

Turning to plants to fight belly fat

Griffonia simplicifolia is an interesting plant that grows in Western Africa. It’s a natural source of 5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP). 5-HTP is the precursor to serotonin. Serotonin is a major neurotransmitter in both the brain and the digestive tract. In the brain, it helps with mood and stress, as well as with controlling your appetite. The problem with 5-HTP is that it only lasts an hour or two, which makes it difficult to help someone’s binge eating or consistent snacking. The solution to this issue is to make the nutrient time-released, which allows the 5-HTP to work for four to six hours. This is available in our Trim HxⓇ formulation. Trim HxⓇ can help with appetite control, allowing you to eat less and to stop snacking in between meals. This should be helpful for helping burn belly fat.†

Another plant that can be beneficial is called Grains of Paradise. At InViteⓇ, we use the patented version of this plant called CaloriburnⓇ GP. Studies have shown that 40mg of this nutrient a day can convert white fat, which is belly fat, into beige and brown fat. This helps with burning belly fat, as well as with energy. This nutrient is found in our Trim HxⓇ as well because it works differently than 5-HTP to help target belly fat.†

I frequently talk about being proactive as opposed to being reactive. Today, I want to talk about being proactive when it comes to your cardiovascular health.†

How do genetics play into cardiovascular health?

Cardiovascular disease can be easily influenced by insulin resistance, high blood pressure, dyslipidemia, inflammation and more. If we have a tendency to have thicker or thinner blood, for example, this can have an impact on our cardiovascular health. We could also look at why one person might develop a blood clot while someone else might not or why one person’s cut bleeds for longer than another’s.†

There are different factors that can impact all of these things, such as daily exercise and following a healthy diet, but we can also look at genetic predispositions to cardiac problems. This is important because we know that cardiovascular disease is the leading contributor to both morbidity and mortality, with over 17 million deaths occurring annually due to cardiovascular disease.†

HELPING THE HEART STAY HEALTHY – INVITE HEALTH PODCAST, EPISODE 244. Listen Now>>

As we get older, the risks to our cardiovascular health begin to go up, but we can now look at specific, inherited genetic components that might make a difference in terms of how we exercise, what we eat and what supplements we’re taking.†

Learning about and understanding your genes

At InViteⓇ Health, we offer a Cardiac Health Test, which looks at eight different genes that can indicate if you have a genetic variant that can increase your cardiovascular event such as a heart attack or stroke. Now that we can pinpoint specific genes that may be problematic, we have the opportunity to be proactive and make changes that will benefit our health ahead of time. We can’t change our genes, but we can change up what we’re doing to address any gene variants.†

These genes can help us to indicate if we need to work on our body’s ability to metabolize fats, manage cholesterol levels and more. They can also help us understand what supplements we may need to incorporate into our routine. Beetroot extract, for instance, can assist with the natural production of nitric oxide. Arginine can help to enhance nitric oxide production. Adequate amounts of magnesium, omega-3 fatty acids and resveratrol are important as well. This is what it means to be proactive about your health.†

In this episode, Amanda Williams, MPH explains the importance of understanding your body’s genetics when it comes to cardiovascular health. She details the capabilities of our Cardiac Health Test and discusses how this can help us be proactive about our health.†

Key Topics:

  • What is cardiovascular disease?
  • Details about our Cardiac Health Test
  • The importance of the APOE gene
  • Nutrients that may help with cardiovascular health
