Why olive oil is so beneficial for our health

We know that olive oil is packed with really important vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. We can look at Vitamin E and Vitamin K, for example, which are contained in olive oil. It also contains very powerful antioxidants.†

One of these antioxidants in particular has been studied across the spectrum of health is olive leaf extract. Olive leaf extract contains oleuropein, which is responsible for most of olive oil’s antioxidant properties. It also helps ease inflammation.†

Oleuropein and olive leaf extract

Oleuropein is a compound that is unique to olive oil. It is the reason why olive oil has a bitter taste.†

Olive leaf extract and oleuropein have been studied for its ability to support healthy blood pressure, help inflammation and promote our immune defenses. Oleuropein seems to be responsible for the major inflammatory effects of this nutrient.†

Olive leaves themselves are rich in these polyphenolic compounds that have all of these different antioxidant, antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory activities. The olive leaf extract is where we are deriving all this power from.†

The way this actually works is not just by fending off oxidative stress and reactive oxygen species, but also by down regulating inflammation via tumor necrosis factor alpha. This basically allows the body to put a wall up to prevent inflammation from running wild through the body. This is especially important when you consider all the different chronic diseases in which inflammation is the underlying mechanism for the progressiveness or the degeneration within that disease state.†
